RWBY (pronounced “Ruby”) is an American animated web series created by Monty Oum, set in the fantasy-meets-technological world of Remnant, where young warriors train to defend humanity from monstrous Grimm.
Beyond the show itself, RWBY has grown into a massive global fandom. Fans are deeply engaged through cosplay, fan art, fanfiction, conventions, and online communities, with RWBY often cited as one of Rooster Teeth’s most influential and beloved properties. The series has inspired video games, manga adaptations, merchandise, and international collaborations, including partnerships with Japanese studios. Its fandom is known for being passionate, creative, and vocal, helping RWBY become the first American anime-style series to gain major traction in Japan.
By the time of Volumes 5 through 8, where the story arcs grew darker and more complex, RWBY had firmly established itself as a cultural phenomenon, one where the audience doesn’t just watch, but actively participates in shaping and celebrating its universe. I created the keyart and supporting ad campaigns for Volumes 5 - 8. Volumes 5 through 7 had feature billboards in Times Square!
